Mr. Day was an optical engineer at Kodak for 36 years and was the sole or contributing inventor on ten U.S. Patents, with the corresponding foreign patents that also issued.

About the Author
Pierce B. Day was born to China missionaries on October 25th, 1924. He received his early education in boarding schools, first at the Kuling American School in the mountains of central China, and at the Shanghai American School. His family returned to the U.S. in 1937 and settled in Wooster, Ohio where Pierce was placed in another boarding school, Peddie, for the remainder of his high school education. He was awarded the Genesee prize Scholarship at the University of Rochester in the fall of 1942, completed one semester, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After three years in the Air Force, he returned to the University of Rochester, Institute of Optics, taking courses in Physics and Optics, and graduating with a B.S. degree in 1948. He was employed by NACA, the predecessor to NASA, and returned to the U of R to study for a masters in optics, which he received in 1950, the year he started in the lens design department at Kodak. Mr. Day is the sole or contributing inventor on ten U.S. patents, with the corresponding foreign patents that also issued.

A Must Read

This is a well written, easy read of a highly technical subject. For Eastman Kodak Company Research and Engineering people it is not only a trip down memory lane but an absolute must read.

Correction

I wish to thank the previous reviewer, Mathew Russel, for pointing out an error in the footnotes of my book on page 105. I erroneously attribute the patent for the recirculating document feeder to our mutual friend Gary Gustufson. In an email Mathew Russel indicated that the document feeder that I remembered Gary having worked on was in fact a document "positioner", which did not recirculate originals.
Mathew Russel is not only the inventor but he also designed and developed the recirculating document feeder for the Kodak copier-duplicators, which gave the attorneys an important bargaining chip in negotiations with Xerox.

I was there and knew the author well. I found this documentary truthful, interesting, factual( except for a few flaws), and worth reading by anyone interested in our space exploration activities.
