excellent high-level introduction

Tickle Me Please! is an excellent high-level introduction to the world of tickling as a kink. It covers common terminology, kink negotiation, and even an introduction to important BDSM concepts like consent, safewords, and aftercare. This book is an incredibly useful tool for introducing such things to a partner who is otherwise unfamiliar with them. Prufer (Fallen from a Chariot) makes the political personal and the personal political, all in the service of sinuous, moving free verse. He has a rare gift for bringing the inanimate to life on the page. The American West becomes a drifter on a raft, his chest brown and flecked with hair, and the title poem begins with a shopping center calling out like a lover. Elsewhere, ancient Rome, its empire in slow, steady decline, is found curled on a pew, asleep, a haunting parallel for contemporary America. Poetry—a possible source of salvation?—is a boy locked in a car's trunk, screaming and refusing to die. And there are people in these poems, too: a speaker who writes love notes he describes as empty and vaguely/ sad. Dead children, soldiers and those left behind in an evacuation speak and are spoken about. An absurdly large parachute falls over a suburb, and the speaker writes letters to his lover while trying to find his way out from under it. Near the end of the book, Prufer writes, I don't know what to do/ with the doomed, the chilled over and gone,/ but drink until my fingers become twigs. This powerful collection, Prufer's fourth, is an ongoing elegy for a dark time in American history(Feb.)

The book opens with a panoramic vision of the aftermath of apocalypse--"expired" cars, silenced TVs, coffins "unmoored and happy with the storm"--but ends intimately, with a child's memory of his first encounter with death; the thin wire between political failure and personal grief runs taut throughout. In the eerie centerpiece poem, the suburbs are sealed under an enormous parachute, its nylon shimmering; icicles line the seams and crash into the streets, and the narrator walks for days, never finding the edge."—New Yorker

In the title poem, the speaker waits in a parking lot while his companion finishes shopping: "What was the body but a vessel, and what was the store but another,/ larger vessel?" Often, things are inside of other things: a body inside a car trunk or a man beneath a spread parachute that covers an entire neighborhood. At the core is a boy's fear of the unknown: "My brother cried at dinner when he learned/ one day he would die. Impressive

I read a lot of contemporary poetry this year, and this was really one of the best books I read. While there's a lot of poets writing about political issues right now, what I like about Prufer's treatment of issues like Iraq, and American consumerism, is that he's able to address these things without slipping into the rhetorical mode. Subtle, musical and full of interesting metaphors and symbols, the book moves between the political and the personal with surprising ease, and really creates a lasting impression. I wish I was being more articulate, but trust me, this is a really interesting book and deserves some attention.

My area of study is medieval and Renaissance literature.I was not interested in any poetry written post 1600 until a graduate workshop in poetry forced me to read this work. Prufer's narrative style of poetry gave me a deeper interest in poetry and prompted me to explore this field more. You will not be disappointed!

About the Author
Yaw Agawu-Kakraba is Professor of Spanish and Director of The Pennsylvania State Universitys Office for Summer Session. The author of Demythification in the Fiction of Delibes, his numerous essays on contemporary Spanish narrative and theatre have appeared in several leading academic journals throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States. His most recent book, Postmodernity in Spanish Fiction and Culture, was published in 2010 by the University of Wales Press. Komla Aggor is Professor of Spanish and Hispanic Studies at Texas Christian University (TCU). An expert in 20th- and 21st-century Spanish theatre, Aggors research deals with authors and trends in Europe, South America, Africa and the Caribbean. His major publications include Francisco Nieva and Postmodernist Theatre (University of Wales Press), which was jointly published in Spain by Editorial Fundamentos and Madrids Royal School of Drama. Aggor and Agawu-Kakraba co-direct the biennial International Conference on Afro-Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and Latin American Studies (ICALLAS), held at the University of Ghana.

One of the most important book you will ever read!

Bev, your story is so beautiful and heartfelt. Your transparency will encourage all of us to take a good look at our own lives and see where need to do a little purification. God has blessed you and you have blessed all the children you have loved. Thank you for sharing your life with us. If I may add, the only missing detail is why the other foster mom couldn't keep Courtney, she was a single mom with a three year old and she couldn't leave work to get to WIC for Courtney's formula and her budget couldn't afford her formula any more. I couldn't bear to see her moved about again and I knew your arms needed a baby so I asked the case worker if I could contact you to keep Courtney at my daycare. I loved her too! “INSOMNIA My Wake-Up Call” is a touching conversion story that immediately encouraged me to take an accounting of my own life. It called to mind Jesus’ warning that we must enter the kingdom like little children. Bev makes it clear that this is how she now relates to God, and her child-like zeal is contagious! She is shouting at the top of her lungs, telling the world that Jesus is RIGHT HERE.
The book also reminds us that God creatively uses any, and often unlikely, means to reach out to us. While most of us will meet God in more subtle ways, Bev’s story demonstrates that sometimes a more overt method is called for.

I would urge anyone, Catholic or non-Catholic to read the book and relive with Bev, the startling and unique experiences that led her to Jesus. You’ll be warmed and inspired by her honestly, enthusiasm and determination to share her story.

This is THE resource for learning about mediation

I'm a full time mediator and I also do a fair amount of mediation training. When I teach a mediation course at the university level, this is the book I use as the textbook. It's the most thorough and thoughtful work on mediation, mediation history, and how mediation works. It's the backbone of every training program I've attended as well as my own trainings. It's long and not for the casual reader, but it's a terrific value and very complete. If I had to recommend one book on mediation, this is it.

Detailed and theoretical

As a beginning mediator, I found this book very detailed and theoretical. I am sure that I will return to it again and again as I gain experience. I found "Basic Skills for the New Mediator (2d edition)" by Allan H. Goodman to provide a quicker and more practical overview. When used together, I believe both books are a good basis for the practicing mediator.

Very good book, but theoretical

Very good book that goes into a lot of detail and is suitable for a college class on mediation.
This book goes very in depth and will take you awhile to read, but it has a lot of good information,

If you are a new mediator and want an easy well written, short book to help you get started, pick up a copy of judge Goodman's book, "Basic Skills for the New mediator". I give a copy of his book to all the new folks I train that want to be mediators.

I read the book once already and i'm getting ready to start the series over again, including 6! The book had me from the start and I literally couldn't put it down. This series is everythingggggggg I just HAD to log on so I could write my review. I cannot wait to see what comes next based on the ending but this is seriously a dedicated fan from the beginning, to the end. CAN YOU BELIEVE ZYIAR THOUGH?! ugh. No spoilers but yes, this is yet another amazing addition to the series.

An eloquent defender of human liberty

Gertrude Himmelfarb in her introduction to this collection of Acton's most important essays traces his family background, the part that Catholicism played in his intellectual life , and his general view of the world. Acton was an enormously well- read and highly respected intellectual figure in his own time. A strong Catholic and the editor of the Catholic journal, the Rambler he nonetheless did not follow easily any party- line and had difficulties when the Doctrine of Papal Infallibility was proclaimed. Most famous today for his dictum "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" he saw how Power unregulated led to human beings briging out the worst in themselves.He was a strong defender of human liberty , and an admirer of the American political system . He argued that historical thinking " is a powerful ingredient in the formation of character and the training of talent, and our historical judgments have as much to do with hopes of heaven as public or private conduct."
His defense of Liberty involved the following definition: "By liberty I mean the assurance that every man shall be protected in doing what he believes his duty against the influence of authority and majorities,custom and opinion.'

Very good, an examination of the uneasy relations between Church, State, and the masses from the point of view of one who believed strongly in morality and justice. Tying many social, political and ecclesiastical movements together in broad sweeping generalizations, it is not the sort of treatment you would find in a standard history book, but insightful and thought-provoking. It develops his role in Cobra movement and in 'de 8 en Opbouw', in international CIAM, and the dissident Team 10, and further in architectural education in Amsterdam and Delft. The book pays considerable attention to the concept of relativity, which Van Eyck regards as the foundation of the culture of the twentieth century. And, of course, the book includes a detailed examination of his projects and buildings, ranging from the children's playgrounds of Amsterdam and the Municipal Orphanage, from the introverted Sonsbeek Pavilion to the exuberant Auditor's Office in The Hague. The English edition of this indispensable study of the most eminent postwar architect of the Netherlands will be published on the 80th birthday of Aldo van Eyck. The book contains more than 600 illustrations, of which 100 are in colour, a bibliography of writings by Aldo van Eyck, a selected bibliography of literature about Aldo van Eyck and a list of designs and completed works. Francis Strauven is professor at the Academy of Art and Science in Brussels. From 1971 to 1992, he was editor of the magazines Wonen TABK and Archis, in which he wrote articles on Art Nouveau, Functionalism and contemporary developments.
