Perhaps that shall wait for another time...

I wanted to like this. The story structure is formulaic, and I eat this genre up 3-5 books a month.

But I just couldn't.

Every single time the main character broke narative to talk directly to the reader is was annoying. I wanted to have a physical book so I could dash it against the wall when EVERY 5 PARAGRAPHS the author would write something like, "this event was super important, but I'll have to explain that later". Seriously, I couldn't go 3 page turns without being hounded to buy the next books in the series. Just tell the story, stop saying you're going to tell me the story later!

The plot was simple, the 99c wasn't worth it. There were a lot of points that really didn't connect very well, like some of the history to the 'present'. The book felt like the author just sat down and wrote out the book without really thinking about the back stories, the geography, how the city really survived etc. At the end of the first book I wasn't even sure what the landscape would even look like, and let me say that's vary rare for me. The book was just a light read and if you really didn't care about thinking beyond what happened to the main character in the most basic since then this book will fit you like a glove... Now the grammar and the flow of the story were okay, the only bur in my side is the world building.

Easy reading story. Only downside is the price since you will likely end up buying each part. Each part is a very quick read but together the series makes a good book.

I think it is in our blood...

The Brits do BDSM and Femdom so well. Maybe its in their lineage, they have that Tower of London where they tortured people, all those boarding schools with their uniforms and strict rules and a REAL Queen who never smiles. But, whatever it is, it certainly works. That may even explain my interest, as my surname is of English heritage, though I know not my ancestry beyond my grandparents. For all that I know, I could be related to William or Kate, or even better, Chas Scott. We could be sharing the same DNA, awesome! Writers of this genre tend to be either heavy into the pschology, and as a result often too wordy, too preachie and eager to rationalize their motives, or only into.. action, action, action which, without real substance becomes tiresome fast. But Chas, brilliantly walks the line in the middle, doing an excellent job blending delicious head games with frequent acts of love, c. 75%. And yes, most certainly, it is a love story. Chas is no voyeur, in addition to talking the talk, Chas certainly walks the walk. A big thumbs up. YEAH! GO ENGLAND!

Great Short Story

This is a short story but it is well written and the chemistry between Jace and Laila is hot, hot, hot! The gist of the story - Laila was sent out to the ranch in the middle of nowhere to do a story on cowboys/ranch; and Jace the owner of the Ranch is the ultimate rugged, hot and great looking cowboy with a bit of clumsiness and shyness thrown in. Perfect! The chemistry/attraction between the two of them began at the airport and from their we get to see a the development of a relationship between the two. The love scenes were beautifully done and kept you on the edge! Overall, a really great story.

He had me at, "if it's okay with you, I'd like to court you" !

I've read a few of Tali Martel's stories, and I have simply fallen head over heals in love with her heroes. As soon as Jace asked to court our heroine, I melted inside and went all giggly and warm. I mean, you can't get as sexy as this guy right here! He's a gentlemen (at least he tries is hardest to be despite the whorish efforts of the heroine, THROWING HERSELF AT HIM! I mean if i were her, I would be feeling all kinds of horny too, but it's not every day that a man wants to COURT YOU! Give him a couple days at least woman! Sorry, I digress), a COWBOY (hello, every girl's fantasy!), a perfect mix of shy and virile, and last but not lease, he's just gorgeous. I can definitely say that he is why I love this story. The story-line was good, used before, but good.

The only cons I can think of (and this is just me and my preference), is the fact that they jumped into bed after ONE DAY, and then proclaimed love after sex…It just doesn't happen. Sex does not equal Love, but that is just my conviction. Another con (one less biased lol), was the spelling error here and there. Either than that, I love Tali Martel's books, and I'm looking forward to whatever else she has in store for us.

If you're a sucker for heroes who are not only sexy, but want to do right by the heroine, then this is your book. If you don't really care for something like this then move along because this is your average cowboy falls in love with city girl type book.

What a way to spend the holidays

Paisley Meadows meets Christopher as she is leaving her Aunt's place in Peoria and heading to the airport to fly back home. Theres an instant attraction but she's leaving and hoping to make it home for Christmas, I think Santa's elves had other ideas for her. Not only is Paisley and Chris on the same flight to Chicago but it's cancelled due to the weather...so whats left to do? Get a hotel room...Now were talking!
You know when you pick up a book by Tara Crescent it's going to be HOT and this was no exception. While this book was a quick read it didn't leave you wanting at all it was HOT, HOT, HOT. I would love to get a peek at Paisley and Chris at New Years and maybe again on Valentine's Day, Can I put in an order for every holiday?

Loved A very paisley Christmas!

I was given this book in exchange for a fair review.
I really liked this story, Paisley was so cute a and I liked the way that after such a short time she felt empowered enough with Christopher to be herself for the first time. I wish that it had been a little longer but you never know with Tara, maybe we will get lucky and she was trying to test the waters to see if we would be begging for more of their story.
I would love to read a full story of if and how this relationship takes place, shapes and grows as it was super cute and had alot of potential to grow into a very Hot novel. hopefully with a HEA! More please!!

My First Chase

This is my first James Hadley Chase read and so I am not in a place where I can determine if this was one of his better or poorer efforts.
I enjoyed this book in much the same way that I enjoy some Turner Movie Classics. I don't watch them to witness great acting or incredible story lines but to remove myself from this current time and my place within it.
Indeed, as I read this book, I could not help but hear Humphrey Bogart delivering the protagonist's lines in Sam Spade fashion. And so, just like those old movies, this book provided the same warm, engaging feelings.
I plan on reading another Chase book in the near future.

A Top-Notch Thriller Set In Post-War London

Back in 1947 when Chase wrote this hardboiled thriller, the war had just ended and many protagonists in novels were returning war veterans, trying to make a life in the world they barely remembered. For the narrator of this novel, a reporter, who had spent several years as a war correspondent in London before the front moved on to France, he fondly remembers his war years in London. Back in the states, he remembers his long-lasting romance with a dancehall hostess and, when he wins it big at the track, he returns to London and seeks her out. But, alas, it turns out she had just committed suicide the day before, sticking her head in the oven with the windows all sealed and the gas full blast. The suicide doesn't make sense and we have a reporter investigating, sometimes alongside Scotland Yard, sometimes in spite of Scotland Yard and the story that follows is a terrific thriller of the kind one can expect from Chase. Between blonde bimbos and gangsters and thieves and muggers and the like, it is one great read that is hard to put down. This is a great read and makes one anxious to try another Hadley novel.

JAMES HADLEY CHASE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE FICTION WRITER
AND I HAD ALL OF HIS 90 BOOKS THAT HE WROTE FROM 1939 'TIL 1982 WHEN HE DIED, EXCEPT FOR" NO BUSINESS OF MINE", WHICH COMPLETES MY COLLECTION !!!!
AND IT WAS AS GOOD AS ALL OF THE OTHER 89 !!!!
