Unique and valuable

I read - studied - this book many years ago and recently gave it to a friend who is a healing practitioner and who is avidly studying it. The language of 90 - 100 years ago is a slight barrier however the content is invaluable. I started off giving this 4 stars due to the language however it is truly worth 5 starts.

Based upon the insight and experience of a mystic and master of meditation Inayat Khan identifies the connections of mind and body decades before this became commonly accepted. His understanding and practical techniques tally with contemporary medicine as well as contemporary 'alternative' medicine.

The value of his teaching is viewpoint that is based upon extensive experience as a practitioner and his deep understanding of human psychology. The book has sections on improving ones health, self healing, and healing others with both theory and practical techniques.

Highly recommended.

Frankly, I dislike terms such as “bad” and “failure” when discussing efforts to improve. They tend to be self-defeating. That said, here’s the basic premise of this book: To improve at being or doing whatever, it is necessary to be “bad” during the process of becoming better.

As Erika Andersen explains, “we have to learn to be okay with being continuously uncomfortable in a way that no one in a previous generation has had to do…we have to learn to be ‘comfortable with being uncomfortable”…What I’ll be doing with you here is supporting you in building a few key habits of mind and action — mental skills that will allow you to acquire new capabilities quickly and continuously. This is an essential ability in our world.” I agree.

Time Out. I cannot recall a prior time in my life when a larger percentage of the people I know had more “crutches” than they do now. Self-justifications fill the air like arrows at Agincourt. So many people refuse to take ownership of the consequences of decisions they made. Personal accountability is as rare as a unicorn. Let’s be crystal clear: What Andersen recommends will require patience as well as persistence, focus as well as mindfulness, and courage as well as passion. Her mission in life is to help as many people as she can to become the best person each can be. Oscar Wilde advises, “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” Andersen takes it a step further: “Be the very best person you can be and never stop improving yourself. Never. And I’ll help you do that. That’s why I wrote this book.”

The book’s subtitle refers to getting good at things FAST and staying ready for the future. I think that claim is overcooked. Improvement in some areas requires more time and attention than it does in other areas. Becoming a much better listener, for example, or earning an introverted colleague’s trust. Keep in mind this sound advice from ancient Rome: festina lente. When appropriate, “make haste slowly.” The point is, getting better is — or at least should be — a never-ending process, not an ultimate destination. As for “staying ready for the future,” Peter Drucker insists that much of it is already here and William Gibson agrees, adding that “it’s just not evenly distributed.” Whatever awaits, it seems prudent to prepare for the most likely contingencies.

Andersen is a world-class expert on personal growth and personal development. The information, insights, and counsel she provides in this volume has been gained from hundreds (if not thousands) of her personal as well as professional relationships. With all due respect to the potential value of the material in the book, however, it is essentially worthless unless and until readers apply it effectively in their lives. So I urge each of those who read my brief commentary to embrace this opportunity to embark with Andersen on a journey of personal discovery. Establish with her help the routines and habits on which success (however defined) depends. I presume to add that a best effort — obviously — offers no guarantee of achieving success. That said…

Here’s what Helen Keller suggests: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” I say go for it. With Erika Andersen, you will have splendid company.

You're never too old to learn new things.

At age 78, I am not in the work force but there are still plenty of things I need to learn in order to keep up and function in today's world. I resist the computer world but here I am, writing a review on Amazon. Anderson's use of Michaelangelo as an exemplar of her method was perfect. It made each step more understandable and much more interesting. The author's voice was friendly, understanding and encouraging. I loved her descriptions of her own "being bad." The whole experience has given me the courage to try the things I've been putting off.

The Real Thing

A consistent theme within Erika’s previous titles is providing a clear and actionable framework for self-improvement, and this book is no exception. After reading Be Bad First, I was struck by how I could relate the concepts embedded in it to real life experiences. I once had the opportunity to work with a successful entrepreneur who grew a business from an idea to a large and thriving enterprise. He did this by having a clear vision of where he wanted to go, being aware of changes that he needed to make to get there, continually questioning the next move, and having the tenacity to overcome a few false starts along the way. This lines up well with what is covered in the book.

Most often books of this type fail my personal litmus test by being somewhat “cushy”, but this book is definitely not one of those.

Haridimos Tsoukas is the George D. Mavros Research Professor of Organization and Management at ALBA in Greece, and Professor of Organization Theory and Behaviour at the University of Strathclyde Graduate School of Business, UK. Previous positions held include Lecturer at Warwick Business School (1990-5), and Associate Professor at the University of Cyprus. Christian Knudsen is a Research Fellow at Copenhagen University and �rhus Business School, Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School, Visiting Professor at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, and Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Stanford University.

Scholarly Source on Meta-Theoretical Perspectives

This book is the culmination of several contributing scholars on Meta-Theoretical perspectives in Organizational science. The main perspectives focused on are the modern and postmodern views (and the various perspectives that fall under each as well as theories and models). For those familiar with theoretical perspectives, there is not nearly as much on the symbolic-interpretive perspective as the other two, but it is eluded to (not always mentioned outright).

This book is written in a scholarly tone and as such can be difficult for non-scholars to grasp. Much of it is abstract. I read this as a textbook for a doctoral course in Organizational Theory. It fits that. If you are at the Master's level or are just interested in theoretical perspectives, this is not the book for you. It's not that you wouldn't understand it (hey, even scholars sometimes have difficulty understanding what other scholars write), it's that it is above and beyond what you would really need. If you are a doctoral student, or a faculty member, this book would be much more applicable.

Glenn's series of books illuminating the facets of the jewel of Scholasticism. Unfortunately, this particular edition, published by Catholic Way Publishing, is an abomination of editing. I can not recommend the purchase of this particular edition.

I had, in fact, discovered in the Abbe Roux, not only the Limousin poet whom I had set out to seek, but a remarkable French writer and almost a polygraph.

I shall never forget the feeling of surprise which I experienced when I came to examine for the first time the voluminous pile of his manuscripts, when it was, with me, only a question of a note upon a poet.

Fall in love with the queen of hearts

I loved loved loved The passionate queen I have always had a passion for the queen of hearts so this story was truly fascinating to me to find out how she came to be a woman that would sentence so many to beheadings. I must say this is my favorite of the books so far, and I have read them all.
A girl with a fate not her own locked into her position by cruel hands is able to find friendship and love with a magnificent boy that is not what he seems but something far for amazing.
Hearts that are broken cause people to make terrible decisions that lead down roads better left untraveled.
The queen must learn how to open her heart again to the boy that broke it even if it could mean her undoing.
The boy now a man must learn to cherish and guide his queen bring back the loving innocent girl she was when they first fell in love.
A story you will fall in love with and two people that create magic that you can't help but smile at. These two stole my heart from the moment they met.

I loved this new book by Ms. Jovee's. The book starts out as others have stated of the queen being a young teen and her first meeting of the young dragon. The story line does bounce around a little bit but it's more of a peek here and there to keep the story moving because this story covers years not just a few weeks. And seeing the characters from the first queen book show up unexpectedly was unexpected but by far was not unwelcomed. I loved how the Dragon had to win back the heart of the Queen and to show her that she could rule and love and be loved. Off With their HEADS!!!!!!

I adore the red queen!! She's humanity at its best and worst! Her life keeps you intriqued from the beginning to end. Going in I really didn't think that I would like her because let's face it she's the Queen of Hearts! Danika even makes a reference to her in the first books about how bad she is, so I wasn't prepared for the amount of sympathy, heart brake, and pride I had for this character. Jovee did it AGAIN, and this is why I love love love everything she has put out! This is most assurantly a must read for everyone who loves the kingdom's series!!!!!

One of the best!

If you are preparing for your residency exams or you are already in your clinical practice as gynecology and obstetrics resident, you have to buy this book! It's very complete, although it's not a big textbook like Williams, you can find the information quickly and this is perfect for the specific residency exams. I recommend u buy it. The best was I got this book for $50.00 less than in my country. The delivery was fast and the condition of the book was excellent.
